Founded in 1879 by the Massa family, Vigneti Massa is a historic estate located in Monleale, within the rolling hills of southeastern Piedmont's Colli Tortonesi region. The winery is spearheaded by the visionary Walter Massa, famously celebrated for single-handedly reviving local indigenous grape varieties from near-extinction. For his muscular red wine, Pertichetta, Massa sources 100% Croatina grapes from two organically farmed plots that total just 2.5 hectares of land. These steep, southeast-facing vineyards are situated at an altitude of approximately 800 feet, where the vines grow deep roots into nutrient-rich, dense clay soils. This specific terroir restricts vine yields naturally, resulting in low-intervention wines with incredible structural depth and immense longevity.
