Established in 1671, Tenute Sella is one of the most historic and influential family-owned wine estates in Italy's northern Alto Piemonte region. The grapes for this specific wine are meticulously hand-harvested from their flagship estate parcels situated within the tiny Lessona appellation, including the prized, centuries-old San Sebastiano lo Zoppo vineyard. These high-elevation vines thrive on distinct, highly acidic Pliocene-era marine sands packed with ancient fossil shell deposits. Thanks to this unique sandy terroir, the Nebbiolo from Lessona offers a dramatic departure from its southern counterparts in Barolo and Barbaresco. Rather than being driven by heavy power, muscular structure, and dense tannins, this wine is celebrated for its ethereal, fragrant, and gossamer profile, yielding silky textures, bright acidity, and an intense, saline minerality.
