Notes from Skurnik:
"Proprietor Marc de Grazia is one of the pioneers of the Etna. Not only was he among the first producers to recognize the value of these once-forgotten, ancient terroirs, he also was the first producer to bring attention to the specific qualities of these vineyards by bottling single-parcel Nerellos that have become reference-point wines for the Etna.
Where it all began. The first vineyard, the first estate wine from Terre Nere in 2002, the first Etna Rosso to show the Contrada on the label and the first in a Burgundy bottle.
Of all our crus Guardiola is the one with the highest altitude, from 900 to 1000 metres, at the extreme limit of the DOC. And naturally, the higher you climb, the more impoverished the terrain becomes. And Guardiola is no exception: thin soils composed mostly of volcanic sand, basaltic stone and traces of ash. And equally naturally the steepness increases, and the terraces, to compensate, narrow."
