North Berkeley Imports:
Domaine Arlaud is a reference point for natural Burgundy wines. Preserving the health and character of their vineyards is of utmost importance to this generations-deep biodynamic winemaking clan. Today the Arlauds stand side-by-side with Burgundy’s most respected names. The estate holds both organic and biodynamic certifications, the very first to do so in Morey-Saint-Denis.
The family’s vines are split between the highest part of Mazoyères-Chambertin, along the “Route des Grands Crus” and touching Latricières, and the lower portion of Mazoyères. The oldest vines were planted in 1957; soils are particularly sandy, with limestone.
William Kelley:
he 2021 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru derives from a one-hectare parcel in Mazoyères that's harvested in three picks and vinified in two vats. Medium to full-bodied, supple and fleshy, it's a sensual red evocative of dark berries, spices, sweet soil tones and baking chocolate.
