The Côtes Catalanes is one of the most underrated wine regions with some of the most impressive cuvees reigning from the area. Husband and wife team Carloin and Nikolaus’s ‘Roi Dez Lézards’ is one of those cuvees. Aromas of fresh cherry, plum, boysenberry, anise, and bacon fat sit above distinctive notes of leather, shoe polish, and sandalwood. The palate is concentrated with brilliant acidity that dances with supple tannins before evolving into a lengthy finish with subtle tones of baking spices. Try with a variety of flame grilled meats or vegetables, or alternatively try with game fowl dishes.
About The Producer: Carloin and Nikolaus Bantin have been making wine since 2002. They moved from Germany to the south of France; when they got their property the previous owner had a clause that they had to take possession of the vineyard with the purchase of their home. They obliged and 21 years later they are making some of the most amazing wines. The first few years they sold their grapes but after interning with Olivier Pithon, the couple was convinced to start their own production, and thus Les Enfants Sauvages was born.
