Importer notes from Becky Wasserman & Co.:
"Amélie Berthaut received an impressive array of vineyards from her mother and father who owned and managed separate family domaines. Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet includes all the vineyards of Domaine Denis Berthaut and parts of the vineyards of Domaine François Gerbet, totaling 16 hectares located in the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits, in the villages of Fixin, Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Vougeot, and Vosne-Romanée."
A blend of lieux-dits: Fixey, Le Village, Le Pré, La Sorgentière and La Vionne; plante between 1980 and 1990 with limestone and marl soils.
Jasper Morris:
"En masse, first in foudre and now in tank for imminent bottling. All destemmed. Some new wood here as the volume of the 1ers Crus was too small. Mid crimson, not too much bouquet. Plumps up very nicely on the palate, with a delicious juicy cherry and raspberry fruit and fine persistence. There are no hard edges at all, perhaps the new cuverie has really made a difference. Includes one small plot of former Côte de Nuits-Villages vines."
Offering up notes of dark berries, orange zest and smoked meats, the 2023 Fixin Village is medium-bodied, supple and lively, with chalky tannins that lend gentle grip to the finish.
