Notes from SoilAir Selections:

"The Dezat family is one of the oldest wine-growing families in Sancerre, with references to the family dating as far back as 1550. André Dezat took over the family vineyards in 1948 and became actively involved in promoting the wines of Sancerre. In the 1970's, he was joined by his sons, Louis and Simon. The winery was then modernized with new facilities and expanded vineyard holdings in Sancerre and the additional appellations of Pouilly-Fumé and Menetou-Salon. The Dezat estate spans 45 ha of vineyards and represent all three principal soil types of the region, terres blanches (chalk), caillotes (a gravelly limestone-based soil),and silex (flint), that bring complexity, purity and fine character to the wines produced. The Sancerre vineyards comprised of 15 hectares planted with Sauvignon Blanc and 7 hectares planted with Pinot Noir, located mainly in the areas of Verdigny, Sury en Vaux, Sancerre, Vinon and Veaugues.  The variety of terroirs they have access to enable them to enforce a consistent classic style across vintages.

Today, Andre's grandsons Arnaud and Firmin Dezat are the new generation and take the most active role in the family business. The winery has always focused on striving to produce wines of great quality, with full respect for their typicity and for the environment. As a result, in 2018, the Andre Dezat estate was granted the French official “high environmental value” certification for maintaining a commitment to sustainable farming and biodiversity.

For both the white Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, grapes are sorted and gently pressed into temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, to undergo a 30-60 day cool fermentation. The wine then continues aging on the fine lees for several months before being bottled in the following spring. This special terroir, combined with a historical know-how, make Andre Dezat wines sought after and enjoyed more than ever by consumers around the globe."
