Located in Italy’s rugged Valle d’Aosta, Danilo Thomain is the sole independent vigneron producing wine in the tiny, 5-hectare Enfer d’Arvier appellation. The family winery is defined by "heroic viticulture," manually farming steep, south-facing terraces that trap intense heat—earning the area its nickname, "The Hell of Arvier". Working from a small cellar beneath his home, Thomain focuses on the indigenous Petit Rouge grape, using spontaneous fermentation and minimal intervention to craft roughly 200–500 cases of vibrant, mineral-driven alpine wine each year. In 2026, the estate continues its tradition of excellence as Danilo works alongside his son, Amedeo, to preserve and reclaim historic high-altitude vineyard sites.
90% Petit Rouge, 10% blend of Pinot Noir, Gamay, and the rare Gamay-hybrid Gamaret.
