Located in the heart of Italy's Cilento National Park near the ancient Greek temples of Paestum, San Salvatore 1988 is a pioneer of biodynamic and organic viticulture in the Campania region. Founded by entrepreneur Giuseppe Pagano in 2006, the estate operates as a "closed-loop" sustainable ecosystem, utilizing a herd of roughly 450 water buffalo to provide natural fertilizer and an onsite biodigester to convert waste into clean energy. The winery focuses on indigenous varieties such as Aglianico, Fiano, and Falanghina, producing high-altitude wines that emphasize the mineral-rich, volcanic terroir of the region.

We can't resist wines that transport us. This doesn't happen at every tasting, but it surely did when Elena Spadoni of the San Salvatore estate poured for us a few weeks ago. It was clear to us after sampling their latest releases, that they truly captured that elusive "sense of place" quality across all styles. The vineyards proximity to the sea and lengthy exposure to sunshine was reflected in the whites, reds and rosé and immediately gave us the idea to offer this diverse 3 pack.

2023 San Salvatore, Falanghina - Campania, Italy Impressions: Falanghina grapes are grown in the Cannito vineyards within the Cilento National Park. You are greeted by a complex bouquet of lemon rind, green apple, and orange blossom, accented by subtle hints of beeswax and acacia honey. A vibrant acidity introduces a medium-bodied salty mineral core that balances ripe orchard fruit flavors through a long, refreshing finish. While there is a stronger focus on Fiano based white wines for San Salvatore, this Falanghina stole the show when we tasted their Bianco lineup.

2024 San Salvatore, 'Vetere' Rosato - Campania, Italy Impressions: This wine takes its name from Magliano Vetere, a small town near San Salvatore's Cannito vineyards. It is rare to come across Aglianico based rosé, and when you do they feel more like a chilled red. 'Vetere' is clearly inspired by Procençal rosé, and entices with aromas of red fruits, wildflowers, and dried herbs. On the palate, it delivers a crisp, lean and mineral-driven profile that concludes with a floral fruity and briny finish.

2020 San Salvatore, 'Jungano' Paestum Aglianico - Campania, Italy Impressions: Aglianico is one of Italy's greatest red wine grapes, and arguably the most important Southern Italian varietal. This is a lovely example that does not require decades to tame, and is drinking beautifully now. Vines are sourced from the town of Giungano which gives this cuvée its name. On the nose, it offers a decadent bouquet of blackberry, plum skin, and dark chocolate with nuanced hints of dried lavender and tarry smoke. The palate is full-bodied and energetic, balancing ripe, well-integrated tannins with a vibrant acidity and a long, persistent finish. Assertive, yet not overpowering, this is a very versatile food pairing wine.
