Impressions: Though not as internationally renowned as Argentina, Chilean wine has quietly been crafting what we think is the best South American wine for decades now.
Aromas of cherry fruit leather, raspberry, and red currant linger above floral tones of rosewater. The delicate acidity introduces a light body that twirls with savory tannins leading to a slightly smoky-earthy finish with notes of sage, menthol, and eucalyptus. Try with Greek meze or a Mediterranean dish of your choosing.
About The Producer: Catalina Ugarte sources her grapes from heirloom vineyards that are well over 100 years of age. Her estate, located in the Itata Valley, a region that only grows País, and has been a long-overlooked region in Chile’s world of winemaking. Catalina has been trying to bring this beautiful varietal back into the world and is several vintages into her natural winemaking life. The Itata Valley is an ancient wine producing region, lots of the vines look like little trees and are over 250 years old!
