The 'Finca de los Locos' Rioja is a masterpiece of precision viticulture, perfect for anyone who loves an elegant solution to a complex problem. Breaking away from Rioja’s legacy, oak-heavy classification systems, the de Miguel brothers approached this vineyard like visionary engineers. They recognized that the high-altitude, gravel-over-limestone terrace—once dismissed by locals as a "madman's project"—was actually an optimal microclimate. By co-fermenting a calculated ratio of Tempranillo and Graciano with a clever splash of white Viura, they maximized structural complexity and created a flawlessly balanced, terroir-driven red.
On the palate, this wine performs beautifully under analytical scrutiny, revealing an intricate architecture of crunchy red fruit, fresh mountain herbs, and a deep, limestone-driven minerality. Aged for 16 months in neutral French oak, it minimizes wood "noise" to let the pure, high-fidelity signal of the vineyard shine through. It is a highly rewarding, data-forward bottle that offers sophisticated layers and a long, crisp finish—making it the perfect pairing for sharp minds and deep, late-night strategic deep dives.
About the Producer:
Arturo and Kike Miguel are 5th generation winegrowers that proudly reject the classification system of Rioja with its stringent parameters for winemaking. They mainly do this based on the time and type of ageing. Their focus is to capture the purest most vivid expressions possible of the amazing terroir that they are blessed to be able to work with.
