Badalucco de la Iglesia Garcia is a family-run winery located in western Sicily, created by Italian winemaker Pierpaolo Badalucco and his Spanish wife Beatriz de la Iglesia Garcia. The couple merges their heritage to breathe new life into nearly forgotten Sicilian traditions, particularly the ancient, unfortified styles of Marsala. They farm their vineyards biodynamically and use hands-on, ancestral methods like foot-treading to make deeply expressive, natural wines.
The name "Pipa" pays tribute to the historic barrels once used to ship wine from Marsala. The winery focuses on reviving the "Pre-British" style of Marsala wine. Before British merchants started adding brandy to fortify local wines in the late 1700s, Sicilian winemakers relied entirely on high-quality grapes and long aging to naturally preserve their barrels.
