Founded in 2002, Aphros is a project led by biodynamic pioneer Vasco Croft, one of only two producers crazy enough to attempt (and succeed!) in this method of cultivation in the rainy Vinho Verde region. Equal parts philosopher, farmer and winemaker, Croft has led an ambitious project that combines ancient traditions and modern scientific understanding, resulting in wines of truly exceptional energy and quality.

Flor impressions:

Alvarelhao is a variety found almost exclusively in Northwest Portugal and Galicia in Spain, where it is also known as Brancellao. In the hands of Aphros, the grape becomes a delicate, pale colored and light bodied wine. It has bright aromas of strawberry, rhubarb, with savory, earthy undertones. On the palate, its delicate tannins make it firmly in the chillable red category, though its savory complexity makes it far more interesting than your average "glou glou" bottling.
