Minerality

Established as an independent estate in 1983 by Leo Alzinger Sr. and now run alongside his son Leo Jr., Weingut Alzinger has quickly become a benchmark producer of crystalline, structurally complex Wachau wines. Operating under a philosophy of minimal intervention in the cellar, the family coopers-turned-winemakers focus entirely on capturing the pure, transparent essence of their exceptional terraced vineyard sites.

Among their most prized holdings is the historic Ried Loibenberg, a massive, south-facing monument of stone terraces towering nearly 200 meters above the Danube River. Known traditionally as one of the warmest sites in the region, the vineyard features dramatic microclimates where cool northern winds drop nighttime temperatures, locking in vital acidity. Alzinger’s Riesling block is specifically situated on the upper elevations of this slope, where the vines must struggle through barren, shallow Gföhl gneiss soils to yield a wine of intense, laser-focused minerality and profound aging potential.
