About The Producer:
Alpha Estate, founded in 1997 by renowned enologist Angelos Iatridis, is one of the most respected estates in all of northwestern Greece. Situated at very high altitude (600-700m ASL) in the sandy Amyndeon plateau, the estate’s vines deliver wines of vivid, punchy fruit and bright, crisp acidity, especially in the hands of Iatridis’ laser-precise farming and winemaking. Amyndeon is noted for its Xinomavro.
Flor Impressions:
Just over the mountain from the other acclaimed Xinomavro producing region of Noussa, the wines themselves are worlds apart. This is a high elevation, fresh take on
Xinomavro that opens with inviting notes of red cherries, dried red fruits, tomato leaf, pipe tobacco, dried rose petals, and iron. The palate opens with a crisp, fresh acidity that leans into a juicy/silky, mineral-forward texture that descends towards a light velvety tannic touch. The finish is fruity and earthy with a touch of mountain herbs. This wine is at home with tomato based red sauces and mediterranean fare.
