Val di Suga was established in 1969 and is a renowned producer of terroir-driven Brunello di Montalcino. The winery is unique in owning vineyards on three different slopes of the Montalcino hill—Vigna del Lago, Poggio al Granchio, and Vigna Spuntali—which allows it to express Sangiovese in diverse ways. Owned by the Angelini family since 1994, Val di Suga has a meticulous philosophy centered on showcasing the highest expression of each vineyard's unique terroir. This approach has earned the winery international recognition for its high-quality wines.
Val di Suga owns vineyards across three distinct slopes of the Montalcino hill, resulting in a variety of soil types depending on the specific site. The primary soil compositions are:
Vigna del Lago (North): This vineyard has primarily clay soils mixed with polygenic conglomerates. Poggio al Granchio (Southeast): The soils here are composed of galestro, a type of schistous clay. Vigna Spuntali (Southwest): The soils are rich in sand from degraded Pietraforte stone.
