The Pouillon family has been growing grapes in the region for over a century, but it wasn’t until 1947 when Fabrice’s grandfather, Roger Pouillon, decided to produce wine from his holdings that the domaine was born. The Pouillon family’s holdings are in Aÿ, Mareuil-sur-Aÿ and Avenay Val d’Or in the Grande Vallée, Epernay and Festigny along the Marne River, and Tauxières-Mutry, just to the north in the Montagne de Reims. The majority of the plantings are to pinot noir (3ha), followed by chardonnay (2ha) and pinot meunier (1ha).
Cuvee notes from Schatzi:
"Les Blanchiens" is a mono-cru in Mareuil. This wine is an equal blend of pinot noir and chardonnay, fermented separately in used barriques. This vintage cuvee speaks the terroir of Mareuil with grace and authority. Unique aromatics of black tea and bitter orange lead to an ultra-long, delineated palate. The wine has plenty of drive and power without being heavy or dull. Vinification: Neutral barrique Elevage: 18 months neutral barrique before bottling.
