Champagne comes in various expressions. Beyond the differences of producers’ style, there are wines from the Aube, the Valée de la Marne, and the Côte de Blancs that each convey vastly different wines. There are wines bottled at different pressures. There are wines bottled with different levels of dosage, as in Brut, Extra Brut, or no dosage at all. There are different colors and shades too! This pack features 3 standout champagnes that also represent each of the most popular styles you'll find throughout the region: A Blanc de Blancs, Blanc de Noirs and a Rosé
Diebolt-Vallois, Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut NV
The families making up Diebolt-Vallois have been involved with Champagne production since before Champagne had bubbles. Needless to say, Diebolt-Vallois has greatly contributed to the character of what is recognized as traditional Blanc de Blancs Champagne. Classics are not trends! Aromatics of green apples, citrus peel and brioche lure you into a familiar creamy roundness with a racy backbone acid structure. The wine finishes crisp and chalky. Chardonnay is sourced from the villages of Cuis and Epernay, wine was disgorged on 01/24 with a low dosage of 3g/L.
Francis Orban, Blanc de Noirs Extra Brut NV
Leopold Orban, winemaker Francis Orban’s great-grandfather, was one of the first recoltant-manipulants in the small village of Leuvrigny. From a very early age, Francis knew he’d follow in the family tradition of tending Pinot Meunier vines on the sandy, clay-rich soils of the Marne Valley. Indeed, after finishing his enological studies at the ripe age of 19, he joined the family business, imbued with a generations-deep passion for making pure Pinot Meunier wines. Too long seen as “just” a blending grape in other Champagne regions, Pinot Meunier has pride of place in the Marne Valley. Nearly 90% of Francis’ vineyards are dedicated to this singular grape, as it is here where Pinot Meunier reaches its full potential. This is a great introduction to Pinot Meunier, with a generous amount of reserve wine added for complexity. Receives a dosage of 3g/L
Fresne-Ducret, 'Spagyrie' Premier Cru Brut Rosé NV
The Fresne Ducret domaine consists of 6 hectares of 1er Cru vineyards divided among 25 parcels, which are, with one exception, all in the village of Villedommange. According to the champagne authority, Richard Juhlin, Villedommange, along with the village of Sacy, has the best vineyards in the northern part of the Montagne de Reims, known as the Petite Montagne. Spagyrie is a "New Latin" word for alchemy and the art and science of blending. Spagyrie is a blend of 70% Pinot Noir, 5% Pinot Meunier, 25% Chardonnay. The grapes are from Premier Cru vines in Villedommange, mainly “Les Braies” and “Les Mainberts” with sandy and calcareous clay soils. Fermented in stainless steel tanks, chardonnay is aged in barrels, 15% Pinot Noir vinified as red. 68% 2018 Pinot Noir base vintage, 9% 2017 Chardonnay base vintage, 22% solera. Aged sur lie for 5 years, disgorged 07/24, bottled as Brut with a dosage of 5g.L.
