Producer notes from Vineyard Brands:
"The historic Quinta do Ataíde consists of beautiful organically certified vineyards and olive groves situated on 250 softly undulating acres in the Vilariça Valley. Originally acquired by Symington Family Estates in 1980 for the production of Port, Charles Symington realized its potential for producing DOC Douro wines and in 2013, an experimental varietal library was planted with 53 different varieties– a reflection of the Symington Family’s dedication to conservation in the Douro. The 200-acre Ataíde vineyard has been fully organic since 2007. In addition to the varietal library, Quinta do Ataíde now produces two table wines: Quinta do Ataíde estate wine and the Vinha do Arco, both from traditional Douro red grapes. Symington Family Estates is a certified B-Corporation."
About the cuvee:
"Produced at Quinta do Ataíde in the Vilariça Valley (Douro Superior) — an area in complete contrast to the steeply terraced slopes of the main Douro Valley. Rainfall is low at about 500 mm with very cold winters and hot summers. The combination of these factors creates ideal conditions for organic viticulture and for the production of exceptional Douro wines; very aromatic, deep-coloured and concentrated, showing the unique identity of the Vilariça terroir."
