This is an energetic, "thirst-quenching" red that champions a rare, nearly forgotten grape variety. Crafted by a pioneer of the Fronton region, this wine is designed for immediate pleasure and casual drinking, often described as a "buddy wine" or a southern alternative to light reds like Poulsard.
While the estate is located in Vacquiers, within the Fronton appellation near Toulouse, this specific cuvée is bottled as Vin de France (VDF) because the Jurançon Noir grape is not permitted under the Fronton AOP. The Penavayre family has farmed this land for generations, though they only began estate bottling in 1985 under Louis Penavayre. Today, the estate is managed by Marc Penavayre and his son Thibaut, who are leading figures in the revival of indigenous varieties and natural winemaking in Southwest France.
The vineyards sit on the highest terraces of the Tarn river at an altitude of approximately 220 meters. The climate is warm and sunny, yet the elevated position provides necessary cooling. The ‘Rend Son Jus’ vines (some planted in the 1950s) grow in clay-limestone soils layered with alluvial gravels, silt, and silica. These poor, acidic soils naturally regulate yields, resulting in high-quality fruit with distinct mineral tension.
