Notes from Mantenere:
"The winery dates back to 1939, when three brothers started producing the typical local wines (dolcetto, barbera, langhe nebbiolo and barolo), selling it mainly in a "damigiana" jar (54 liters), With only a few selected customers in Milano, Genova, and Torino requesting wines in bottles. When the longest living brother died in 1994, the winery was abandoned and the cultivation of the vineyards was trusted to third parties.
Until Ileana and Paolo recently decided to pick up the baton.
Today they produce Langhe Nebbiolo (3320 bottles) and a Barolo Perno (1264 bottles) - their first barolo vintage is 2018 - from vineyards in the hamlet of Perno. Located halfway between Castiglione and Monforte in Langa, Piemonte. Vinification in the cellar of the Benevelli family in Monforte, until they complete their own winery in their home less than a stone's throw from Repubblica di Perno.
The Barolo Perno sees 20 days maceration, before aging for 24 months in 10 HL oak barrels, and maturing 12 mnd in the bottle. Their Barolo vineyard was planted in 1986, at 380 mt altitude, south-southwest exposition."
