Sergio's Pick
"As a staff, we can't all be together for every tasting appointment and as such buying decisions are sometimes made individually for the shop. One of my favorite things to do is pull a cork for a wine that I brought in and gauge the team's reaction. We can be a tough crowd, but we are never anything but authentic in our expressions. I knew this wine would go over well, and Danny's reaction to his first taste became an instant classic:
"Who the f#@k is this? This wine is FIRE!"
Who this is, is Mijita Wine Company a micro-winery owned and operated by Lizzy Esqueda. This is Lizzy's inaugural vintage and what an impactful debut for Mijita. Highly aromatic with pristine notes of red cherries, blackberry compote, maitake mushrooms, and iron. The palate is lively with a pulsating acidity that introduces a juicy-silky texture that fades into a fruity, earthy finish with hints of baking spices. This wine greatly over delivers for its price point and is one of only a few domestic Gamay's that I can honestly say, rivals Cru Beaujolais."
