Julien Guillot leads Clos des Vignes du Maynes, a historically significant Burgundy estate that has been farmed organically for generations. Originally founded by Cluny Abbey monks in 910 AD, the estate was acquired by Guillot's grandfather in 1952, who rejected chemicals from the start. Julien took over in 2001 and converted the vineyards to biodynamic farming, upholding the family's deep-rooted philosophy of minimal intervention. He seeks to produce expressive, transparent wines that are true to their terroir.
The grapes for the 'Les Crays' Bourgogne Rouge come from a specific, single plot with chalky, calcareous limestone soil in the Mâconnais village of Cruzille. The Pinot Noir vines on this site are old, with some dating back at least 40 years.
