Domaine Gonzague Maurice is a family-owned Saint-Émilion winery in Bordeaux, France, focused on Merlot-dominant wines from its clay and limestone vineyards. The winemakers embrace traditional farming, working closely with the land to ensure the grapes fully express their unique terroir. The estate crafts several distinct cuvées, including La Grange des Bardes, and has been in operation since 2005.
Coming from the Right Bank's famous clay and limestone soils, this cuvée exhibits a dark and brooding complexity, with a nose of black fruit liqueur, smoky espresso, and truffles emerging from a finely velvety and textured palate. This 2019 vintage yields a powerful yet polished wine, defined by concentrated fruit, savory notes of spice and earth, and a long finish with ripe tannins. Best enjoyed after a 45 minute decant, having said that, it’s also quite enjoyable the second you pull the cork. Is there anything better than a great Bordeaux to cozy up to on a chilly night?
