Italy possesses an extraordinary number of native wine grape varieties, with estimates ranging from 350 to over 500 officially recognized types. Some experts even suggest the total, including undocumented varieties and local clones, could exceed 1,000. This rich diversity makes Italy home to the largest collection of indigenous grape varieties globally, contributing significantly to its unique wines and regional identities.
Some of these varieties are harder to find than others, and it's those rare monovarietal bottlings that we'll be focusing on for this class.
If you've never attended, our classes are a fluid, interactive experience with detailed maps, videos and lessons displayed on a large screen. Lesson plans are also sent to attendees after each class so you can reference what was discussed and tasted anytime.
We will be sampling 6 wines across various styles while learning about each varietal's origin and the growing regions they hail from.
