Bruno Clair represents the 6th generation or his family to make wine in Burgundy. His sons Edouard (vines) and Arthur (cellar) the 7th. The wines have always been great, but are achieving new heights with the last few vintages. Edouard and Arthur have move to organics in the vineyards and more refinement in the cellar. The wines' style haven't changed, but their vibrancy and clarity have been amped up.
Two thirds of the vines were planted in 1912 (with narrower and more irregular rows than is customary today, and therefore with slightly higher density) and the rest in 1972. The rows go the entire slope and Bruno’s example is a complete expression of the terroir.
Wine Advocate:
The 2023 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru is also terrific, bursting with notes of dark berry fruit mingled with hints of peony, vine smoke, orange zest and exotic spices. Medium to full-bodied, layered and enveloping, it's elegantly fleshy, with supple tannins, succulent acids and a long, spicy finish.
