Caves São João is a historic Portuguese winery founded by the Costa brothers in 1920, and remains the oldest family-run wine company in the municipality of Anadia. While they acquired the 35-hectare Quinta do Poço do Lobo estate in 1972 to grow indigenous grapes like Baga and Arinto, they also maintain long-term relationships with local growers to source some of the best fruit each vintage. This dual sourcing approach, combined with traditional methods and modern technology, allows them to produce a wide range of wines, from fresh Bairrada expressions to aged library releases.
One of our favorite addresses in Portugal, Caves Sao Joao always has something unique and delicous to offer, in this case, there's a liter of it! You are greeted with aromas of red cherries, dried rose petals and a touch of spiciness. The palate is light, with a mineral juiciness that descends towards a refreshing finish. We recommend serving this chilled.
