Cascina La Barbatella was founded in 1983 by the Sonvico family who produced wines rich in tradition and culture, earning a multitude of awards and recognition. In 2010 the estate was purchased by husband and wife, Lorenzo and Cinzia Perego, who continue the Sonvico legacy and immerse their love of art into the their wine production.
Their "La Barbatella" cuvee comes from an organically farmed plot planted in the 1950s on sandy soils over a bedrock of chalk. Seeking to highlight the aromatic, refreshing side of Barbera, fermentation occurs at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks. A 2-3 week gentle maceration period, followed by twelve months of aging in neutral oak, give it an approachable, round structure.
