Au Bon Climat was founded in 1982 by the late Jim Clendenen and was dedicated to producing Burgundian-styled Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in Santa Barbara County. The name, which means "a well-exposed vineyard" in French, reflects Clendenen's belief that Santa Barbara's cool, coastal climate is ideal for growing these grape varietals. Known for its elegant, balanced, and age-worthy wines, Au Bon Climat has remained committed to its Old World winemaking principles even as industry trends have come and gone. The winery, now led by the next generation of the Clendenen family, is an icon of the Central Coast wine scene.
The grapes for the "Nuits-Blanches au Bouge" Chardonnay are sourced from the Bien Nacido Vineyard "K Block" and the Au Bon Climat estate's Le Bon Climat Vineyard. Bien Nacido's "K Block," planted in 1972, provides the majority of the fruit and is prized for its old vines and low pH grapes. A small amount of Chardonnay from the estate's Le Bon Climat Vineyard, planted in 1997, is also blended in to add complexity to the final wine.

Winemaking
The whole-cluster pressed grapes are barrel fermented in 100% new French oak, where the wine completes malolactic fermentation. It is then aged gracefully on its lees for an extended period, typically 18 to 20 months, before being bottled without filtration.
