The estate was founded in 1998 by Pier Luigi "Louie" Tolaini, a Tuscan native who immigrated to Canada as a young man, built a successful transportation company, and returned decades later to fulfill his dream of producing a world-class wine in his homeland. Today, the winery is run by his daughter, Lia Tolaini Banville, and is known for combining traditional winemaking methods with modern technology, including the use of both concrete and French oak fermentation vessels. The winery practices organic farming methods and is committed to sustainability, operating with a net-zero carbon footprint to ensure their wines are a true and powerful expression of their unique terroir.
‘Valdisanti’ presents intense and layered aromas of blackcurrant, plum, and wild cherry, accented by nuanced notes of graphite, cedar, and sweet spice. On the full-bodied palate, deep fruit flavors are framed by firm, elegant tannins and vibrant acidity, leading to a long, polished finish with hints of tobacco and balsamic. This powerful yet elegant expression of a Super Tuscan blend is enjoyable now, but also rewards medium term cellaring.
