"Nothing excites us more than discovering a new producer, especially when that winemaker is in our own backyard. If you've never heard of Liska wines, you're probably not alone. 2021 marks their inaugural vintage and frankly, there is not much wine to go around to even try it. Having said this, we simply had to jump at the chance to be able to offer you a glimpse into this winery that we'll surely be stocking our shelves with for years to come.

There is nothing that feels "first vintage" about these wines as each of them brilliantly display the hand of a much more seasoned winemaker. These are wines of precision, balance, freshness, and a committment to a terroir-driven style. There is clearly a philosophy at play here that resonates with each bottling - this is quite the achievement coming right out of the gates on your first vintage.

The focus for Liska is not the usual Burgundian culprits: Pinot Noir & Chardonnay, but rather on the minor, often overlooked, varietals that have a distinct Oregonian voice all their own: Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Grüner Veltliner, Syrah and Gamay.

This is a true micro-winery with the output for all of their wines made in 2021 at around 4,700 bottles total.

2022 Liska Gewürztraminer - Willamette Valley, Oregon
Impressions: I dislike most Gewürztraminer; there is currently only 1 in Alsace that I enjoy and now with this bottling, there are 2. What they both have in common is that they avoid the varietal's bitter finish which most producers do not tame. Aromatically forward with gorgeous notes of lychee, gooseberries, cardamom, and gardenias. The acidity counters its nearly rich body beutifully before finishing on a savory note with hints of baking spices and floral tones.
