Not to be confused with Vino Nobile di Montepulciano which is Sangiovese based, Montepulciano is more brooding and earthier than Tuscan wine and this is exactly that. Dark plums, figs, cherry liqueur, thyme and cigar box entice aromatically. Full velvety body is easily swayed by an energetic acidity that carries its plush texture towards cedar-like dusty tannins before ending with notes of cinder, dried herbs and green peppercorns. Full-bodied and perfect for slightly chilly nights.

Having started as an enologist in both Puglia and Abruzzo, Antonio Lamona today channels all his energies and expertise into La Quercia. Together with three lifelong friends, he oversees this gorgeous, rustic estate in the tiny Adriatic town where sea, sun and wind abound. Lamona may be the quietest benchmark producer in Italy as this bottling of Riserva always punches way above its weight and quickly sells out vintage after vintage.
