Established in Reims in 1843 by Joseph Krug, Maison Krug has built an elite reputation by fermenting every wine plot-by-plot in small oak casks to preserve the individual character of its sources. While the house owns historic vineyards across coveted areas like Ambonnay, Aÿ, Le Mesnil, and Trépail, it also partners with a selective network of long-term contract growers to source meticulously from roughly 250 distinct plots across the region.
For the 2013 vintage, the house masterfully combined these sources into a crisp, fresh blend composed of 41% Pinot Noir, 38% Chardonnay, and 21% Meunier. The grapes were shaped by a notoriously challenging, cold, and rainy start to the 2013 growing season that severely delayed flowering and resulted in a slow, late ripening. This unusual climate ultimately culminated in a rare, late autumnal harvest running from late September into mid-October, yielding incredibly vibrant Chardonnays and beautifully structured Pinot Noirs
