Pahlmeyer was founded in 1986 by trial attorney Jayson Pahlmeyer, who aimed to create a world-class Napa Valley wine that could rival the great growths of Bordeaux. After acquiring and planting prized Bordeaux vine cuttings smuggled from France, Pahlmeyer quickly gained acclaim for his flagship Proprietary Red. The winery became known for working with some of Napa's most influential winemakers, cementing its reputation for producing powerful wines of finesse.
The Jayson by Pahlmeyer Napa Valley Red is a Bordeaux-style blend created as a more approachable expression of the Pahlmeyer style. It is made from select lots of Pahlmeyer's mountain-grown fruit, including from the Waters Ranch in Atlas Peak, blended with grapes from other notable foothill and valley-floor vineyards across Napa Valley.
A blend of Merlot 51%, Cabernet Sauvignon 27%, Malbec 11%, Petit Verdot 7%, and Cabernet Franc 4%.

Winemaking
The individual lots for Jayson by Pahlmeyer are fermented in stainless steel tanks, and sometimes with a small percentage in oak, to preserve the fresh fruit characteristics. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels for approximately 15 months, with the exact percentage of new oak varying by vintage.
