Producer Notes from Racine Wine Imports:
"Thierry Puzelat, along with his older brother Jean-Marie, are the vignerons of their family domain Clos du Tue-Boeuf, located in the tiny village of Les Montils in the Loire. Jean-Marie is now close to retirement. The history of vines and wines run deep in the village, dating back to the 1500's. After trying their friends' wines that they love drinking more than their own wines, Thierry and Jean-Marie converted their vineyards to organic farming in 1996 and removed all additives in the cellar. Clos du Tue-Boeuf is on a clay soil composed of flint Blois chalk on south and southeast hillsides overlooking the Beuvron. Clos du Tue-Boeuf farms 10 hectares in Cheverny and 4 hectares in Touraine. Clos du Tue-Boeuf vineyards are surrounds by forests, maintaining a balanced ecosystem."
About the cuvee:
"This wine and La Gravotte are the top wines for Thierry Puzelat. Predominately Pinot Noir with some addition of Gamay from the 1.3 hectare parcel that has silex and clay. The vines are about 35 years old (as of 2015). The wine spends spends about a year in neutral 400 litre barrels. This wine gains complexity with cellaring. A sibling to La Gravotte, La Caillère has a different but equally stunning personality."
