Division Winemaking-Company (Division Villages) is a Portland based winery started in 2010 by winemakers Kate Thomas and Thomas Monroe. They represent a new generation of curious winemakers looking to go beyond the status quo to create unique cuvees using diverse grape varietals. The winemakers are determined to work make wines with as little intervention as possible, working with vineyards that are terroir driven, and mostly using organic or biodynamic practices. The company includes three labels Division, Division-Villages, Nightshade, and Gamine.
The "Gamine" label is Kate's personal project, which she describes as "dedicated to the bottles, styles, and grape varieties that she enjoyed growing up in France, and those wine loves specifically shared with her mother. Think traveling from Champagne down to the Rhone in your glass! The most delish journey!" Of her 2022 Aligote, she writes, "We think of Aligoté as Chardonnay’s spunky younger sister. Bright-eyed, energetic and so very coy and lovely. Orchard tones and succulent mouthfeel with great zing to boot!"
