Sergio's Pick
This is a light skin contact/orange wine where the thoughtful winemaking process does not overshadow the voice of the Passerina varietal. Delicate notes of dried apricots, red apples, hay, chamomile, and lemongrass emanate from the glass. A soft acidity carries a delicate silky and juicy mineral rich texture towards a long, salty and citrusy finish with just a whisper of a chalky tannic touch.
Mario Macciocca, a former Italian national football player turned winemaker, works with four hectares of biodynamic vineyards on red soil of volcanic origin, at an altitude above sea level of about 380 meters, gently sloping and with maximum sun exposure. Mario predominantly grows Cesanese, which is sheltered from cold and temperate winds by the Scalambra mountains. He also grows Passerina and Malvasia Puntinata. In the cellar Mario works only with spontaneous fermentation and native yeasts.
