This is the producer's first vintage of Vigna Elena. Add it to your collection today!

"Azienda Agricola Elvio Cogno started to produce wines to serve tables and hungry patrons at the Ristorante dell’Angelo in La Morra back in 1936. Their family has long cultivated grapevines for generations. The wine produced by the Cogno family performed more than they expected. It not only served their restaurant patrons but also distinguished itself as an excellent wine.

This success brought Elvio Cogno to leave the restaurant business to produce wines in full time. A business partner supported this decision as his wine showed great reputation. A collaboration between Cogno and the Marcarini winery began as this winery have been managing splendid vineyards in Brunate in the town of La Morra. There, they cultivated Nebbiolo for Barolo.

Elvio’s work pushed towards a goal of producing wine of higher quality and developing the potential of wines in Langhe. Now the hills of the vineyard in Novello have become world-renowned for their history and excellence recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage.Following Elvio Cogno, Nadia Cogno and Valter Fissore now carries the legacy between four generations of winemakers and vine growers.

Elvio Cogno Barolo Vigna Elena is for Barolo purists. A wine that makes no reductions to market demands or taste trends. An honest and respectable Barolo. The wine is full, brilliant carnet red in color. A clean-cut perfume with notes of rose petal, sweet spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. It has a scent of fine tobacco, mint, plust a slight whiff of licorice. On palate it is full-flavored, full-bodied and eloping with suggestions of fresh spices and red fruits. With the 36 months of aging in large barrels, the tannins have become expressive and silky. The after taste serves a strong fruit comeback.

Best served with pasta dishes with game sauces, roast and braised red meat, meaty stew, mature or blue cheeses."
