We love this time of year when we are waking up to brisk mornings, anticipating the fall folliage and soaking in the last rays of summer. It's with this seasonality in mind that we've put together a pack that best captures these shifting moods: charming sparklers for the sunny days, a textural white and light red as dusk approaches and some warming reds for those forthcoming hoodie nights. As much as we love crisp and refreshing wines, the cravings for drier styles is real, hence we present: Sec-tember! It's not just a shameless opportunity for a wine-related pun, but a perfect pairing to these transitional times and a nice accompaniment for the foods that we are beginning to crave.

2021 Can Sumoi 'Ancestral Montonega' - Catalunya, Spain
Impressions: Montonega is a rare pink berried clone of Parellada, a varietal best known for its role in Cava production. This marks the first vintage of this wine's availability in this market and it won’t be the last. There’s a palpable salinity that lurks behind alluring notes of white flowers, white peach, and lime zest. The bubbles are racy but quickly form a gentle mousse that sits over a mineral-rich juicy texture. The finish is bone dry with ending notes of green apple skin, chalk, and oyster shells.

NV Monte Tondo 'Corvina Rosato Frizzante' - Veneto, Italy
Impressions: Italian frizzante’s cover a wide range of bubble attack from sharp and assertive to ones like this that display a gentle fizz and are barely considered a sparkler. This wine seduces brilliantly with intoxicating aromas of fresh red raspberries, underripe strawberries, and cedar. The acidity is sharp and instantly fades to subtle prickly bubbles that form a soft and creamy mousse. Finishes fruity and refreshing. This is a dangerous wine.

2020 Domaine Michaud Touraine Sauvignon - Loire Valley, France
Impressions: The Loire Valley has seen its share of difficult vintages as of late, so coming across a textbook example of Sauvignon Blanc is quite the search. This one is classic with aromas of grapefruit pith, citrus peel, wheat grass and wet stones. The palate is mineral rich and textural with an acidity that energetically sways its juicy profile back and forth before finishing clean, and crisp with a lingering pithy impression.

2020 Luis Pato 'Pato Rebel' Vinho Tinto - Bairrada, Portugal
Impressions: Left to its own devices, Baga is incredibly tannic grape, and the Pato family are masters at taming this varietal. Blended with the lush Touriga Nacional and the softening white Bical, this ‘Rebel’ bottling is one of the most elegant ‘entry level’ Portuguese wines you’ll come across. Gorgeous notes of boysenberry, black raspberry, cacao and pine resin dominate the aromas. Surprisingly light-medium bodied with a juicy profile that descends on a short tannic bite that reveals its spicy, fruity and savory finish.

2020 Domaine Pique-Basse 'La Brusquembille'- Côtes du Rhône, France
Impressions: There are oceans of Côtes du Rhône out there, so when one of them makes as much of an impact on us as this new producer, we can’t help but get excited. An unconventional blend of mostly Syrah and Carignan, this is a juicy yet concentrated red that's great for barbecues or for the fireplace if the weather takes a cold turn. Notes of blackberry compote, olives, black peppercorns and violets dominate the aromas. The texture is lush and silky with a thriving acidity that pushes its full body towards a smoky, peppery and slightly briny finish.

2018 La Quercia Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva - Abruzzo, Italy
Impressions: Not to be confused with Vino Nobile di Montepulciano which is Sangiovese based, Montepulciano is a varietal that's more brooding and earthier than Tuscan wine and this is exactly that. Dark plums, figs, cherry liqueur, thyme and cigar box entice aromatically. A full velvety body is easily swayed by an energetic acidity that carries its plush texture towards cedar-like dusty tannins before ending with notes of cinder, dried herbs and green peppercorns. Full-bodied and perfect for slightly chilly nights.
