With an intimate approach, meticulous cellar work and being one of the first in the region to adapt biodynamic farming methods, Stella di Campalto has quickly risen to the heights of being considered a benchmark Brunello di Montalcino producer. Stella’s 2015 is just as epic as the 2013's we've tried. Both capture an outstanding, classic vintage in all its glory, while challenging the notion of Brunello’s being a “big” wine. Fans of Stella, should know that this is in fact a Riserva bottling, with 'Amore' chosen as a more appropriate label for the Riserva aging process.
There is a wonderful tension between the concentration of this vintage and the restrained/airy house style. Highly perfumed upon opening with alluring aromas of ripe red cherries, blackberry compote, white pepper, graphite, saddle leather, cinder, crushed roses and traces of vanilla. The palate is robust and Burgundian-like with a persistent and soft acidity unfolding a silky-mineral rich texture that descends on a mild grainy and woody tannin profile that reveals an exceptionally long and complex, spicy, earthy, smoky, fruity, and floral finish. There are certain producers that transcend their region, Stella di Campalto rightfully deserves its place among the world’s greatest producers.
