Produttori del Barbaresco is one of the most successful co-op cellars in Italy. Its 52 members cover around 250 acres of vineyards, many among the most coveted Cru’s in the region. With roots dating back to Domizio Cavazza and the inception of the region, to study the history of this estate is to study the history of Barbaresco itself. The Produttori employ traditional winemaking techniques in the cellar, and their focused single vineyard Riserva bottlings truly capture the personality of each Cru. Ovello is a rather large 21 acre vineyard that has a higher concentration of clay giving the wine riper shades of fruit and a powerful structure. No one is more in touch with the personality of each site than managing director Aldo Vacco:
“One of my favourite vineyards, not only because I live on top of it, but because I do like its exuberant and youthful quality. Thanks to the specific soil, the Ovello Barbaresco show explosive fruit on the palate and firm, sometime rough, tannins on the finish. Maybe they do not have the elegance of some other areas, but these wines always bring a lot of joy, and demand a lot of attention, on the palate… like a young teenager that never stops running around full of energy and life.”
