Sergio's Pick

Often Valpolicella gets lumped together with the corpulent Amarone wines that share the Valpolicella name and are some of the most prestigious wines in all of Italy. However, Valpolicella and Valpolicella Superiore are closer in spirit to the charming and light-hearted wines of Beaujolais.

This bottling displays an airy bouquet of fresh red cherries, raspberries, rose petal, fresh thyme and green peppercorns. The acid is bright and lively but does not distract from its juicy mineral forward texture. Very minimal tannins get in the way if its crisp, juicy and fruity finish. Best served with a slight chill and a slice from your favorite pizza spot.

The winery is run by Graziano Prà, whose family owned their vineyards for generations but never commercialized the wines in bottles. The vineyards are situated in the heart of the appellation, in Monteforte D’Alpone. Besides Soave, the winery also produces Valpolicella and Amarone from a vineyard that he purchased and planted in 2001, and whose truly remarkable results are only now being discovered.
