The Pierre Péters estate, situated in the heart of the Côte des Blancs in the village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, has been a family house for six generations and has produced Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Champagnes since the early 20th century. Working exclusively with estate owned vines, Pierre Peters crafts perhaps the best non-vintage Blanc de Blanc in the entire region. The Chardonnay for his flagship ‘Cuvée de Réserve’ is sourced from various Grand Cru vineyards in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Cramant, Avizé, and Oger. As if that weren’t enough to produce a high-quality Champagne, further complexity is added to the assemblage of this 2018 base, with various amounts of added reserve wine rom 1988, 1990, 1993 and 1995 through 2017 accounting for nearly half of the cuvée. Classic Blanc de Blanc aromas of green apple skin, brioche and seashells intertwine with developed aromas of almonds, honeysuckle and citrus peel. The acid is lively, with finessed bubbles uniting over a mineral-rich broad juicy/silky texture. The finish is crisp, dry, slightly nutty with the region’s signature chalky tones leaving their final mark. Sized appropriately for the holidays.
