While our staff has years of combined wine experience, ever so often we simply don't have the exposure to offer a wine descriptor. For example, as I write this I'm staring at a 1989 Muller Thurgau produced right here in the Willamette Valley. Not only was I unaware that there were plantings here, but I have never tried a 35 year old Muller Thurgau from...well...anywhere in the world.
This is the dilemma we encountered when we recently acquired a collection of mostly Oregon wines ranging from the 1970's through the 1990's. Since we mostly received single bottles of each wine, this made pricing these bottles extremely challenging. Curiosity did get the best of us on a few occasions, and there was a magnificent 1983 Pinot Noir that justified a triple digit price point, and another from the same year that did not.
Rather than "guesstimate" individual pricing, we figured it would be more fun to open our doors and invite you all for a shared experience.
If you've ever been to a trade tasting, you know that there is much to learn from these events as they provide an opportunity to compare, contrast, and sample a lot of wine in a short amount of time. So that's what we're going to do with this lot of Oregon wine history.
The tasting will held from 7-9pm on Wednesday, September 25th. The format is simple: come in during this window, grab a glass and taste. Gaston, Andy and Sergio will be stationed at 3 tasting tables, each filled with bottles for you to sample. There will be over 40 bottles open.
