Perhaps no other Sicilian producer is as heralded as Arianna Occhipinti. Her wines are endlessly captivating, leaving a long-lasting impression based on their transparent nature. While Nero d’Avola is a darker skinned variety capable of an imposing structure, Occhipinti’s take is seemingly dark and brooding, yet lifted and energetic. The fruit is pristine, with dark cherries, plum and sun dried tomato aromas nearly dominating the background notes of licorice, black peppercorns, and charcoal. The acidity carries with it a mineral forward juicy-silky texture that unravel towards mildly dusty tannins that end on a complex earthy, smoky, slightly briny note.
