"This 12th bottling of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22.2% Merlot and 2.8% Cabernet Franc is dedicated to Mr. William P. Winans, early northwest pioneer, politician and Walla Walla businessman. William P. Winans was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey on January 28,1836. As a young man, he pursued various business efforts, but on physician’s orders, spent a great deal of time outdoors. Mr. Winans came west by wagon train in 1859, arriving in Oregon, September of that year.
After several years of teaching school in Umatilla County, he moved to Fort Colville, Washington where he helped organize Spokane County and was subsequently appointed Deputy Auditor. William P.Winans served in various elected positions including Stevens County Territorial Legislator before moving to Walla Walla in 1871. Mr. Winans entered into business with Mr. Rees, owning the largest store in town. In 1890, Mr. Winans withdrew from business and opened Farmer’s Savings Bank. William P. Winans was a public spirited man who worked toward the improvement and development of Walla Walla. Mr. Winans died April 22, 1917 in Walla Walla, Washington."
