Winemaker Dominique Moreau named her estate, Marie Courtin, in honor of her grandmother whom she describes as a “woman of the earth”. The aspiration of this winery goes beyond expressing terroir but are instead guided by a spirituality that’s kept close at hand. Much like the Burgundian philosophies that drive many of today’s exciting Côte des Bar producers, the focus here is on single vineyard, single vintage, single variety, no dosage Champagnes. In addition, sélection massale naturally keep the yields low on her youthful and vigorous vines. Mary Courtin wines seem to capture lighting’s energy in a bottle and despite their chiseled profile, they harmonize perfectly with their mineral-rich, vinous backbone, as they are often described as Chablis with bubbles. ‘Eloquence’ derives from a single parcel of Chardonnay from the village of Polisot.
Previous vintage notes from Vinous Media:
“The 2015 Extra Brut Eloquence (Chardonnay) is another superb wine in this range from Marie Courtin. Bright and focused, the 2015 is loaded with character. Citrus confit and floral notes take on striking richness as this resonant, expansive Champagne shows off its personality. The purity of the flavors is just striking.”
