Producer notes from Lustau:
"The origins of Emilio Lustau S.A. date back to 1896, when Mr. José Ruiz-Berdejo, a secretary to the Court of Justice, started cultivating the vines of the family’s state, named Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza, in his spare time. In these humble beginnings he made wines which were then sold on to larger Sherry producers. This activity was known as being an almacenista or stockeeper. In 1931, his daughter, María Ruiz-Berdejo Alberti, acquired a small winery closer to the centre of Jerez de la Frontera and moved there all the preexisting soleras, gaining notoriety and visibility."
Over the ensuing nearly 100 years, Lustau has grown and evolved to become a benchmark producer of all styles of Sherry, internationally recognized and awarded not only as a top Sherry producer, but also one of the great wineries of Spain.
About the cuvee:
"Pedro Ximénez grapes are laid out in the sun after picking until they are practically raisins. After that the fermentation starts slowly and its halted to maintain all the natural sugars.
The resulting wine ages in for 12 years in contact with the air in Jerez de la Frontera. Ebony in colour with iodine highlights. The aromas are reminiscent of figs, raisins and dates. Enormously sweet, velvety and soft on the palate, well balanced, with a very long finish."
