"Founded by Gary and Nancy Figgins, in 1977 Leonetti Cellar (named for Gary’s grandparents) became the first bonded winery in Walla Walla. Almost immediately their exceptional wines set the standard for Washington and over the past three decades they have vigorously worked to maintain that excellence.

The wines are bold and expressive but also balanced and structured. Although delicious on release, the wines age beautifully. All of the wines are aged in a mix of old and new French oak for 15-22 months and total production is around 5500 cases. Leonetti remains strongly rooted in family tradition and the goal hasn’t changed in all these years, simply to produce the greatest wines they possibly can."

Notes from the Winemaker:

"Much like 2002, the 2003 vintage was incredible for it’s lack of precipitation. While Eastern Washington normally has little growing season rain – to have vintages completely devoid of rain is quite unusual. In its’ place was our usual glorious warming sunshine and refreshingly cool nights. Spring time bloom occurred without event, resulting in even set and eventual ripening. Due to consistent warm temperatures, harvest for Merlot came in two relatively early volleys, the 2 nd-7th of September, and Sept. 20th-24th for our cooler sites.

The year gave us wonderfully small berries full of color and concentrated flavor. The wine jumps from the glass with a brilliant, high-toned fruit nose of flowers, freshly cut fruit, and cherry liqueur backed with subtle, integrated spicy oak. This classic Leonetti Merlot presents soft but dense sweet fruit on the pallet as fully ripe, mellow tannins disappear into a long, seamless finish".
