Aged for over 20 years in the solera, the Manzanilla Pasada is one of the family heirlooms kept in the bodega’s Sacristia. For many generations this wine has been Ignacio’s family’s sherry of choice.
Bodegas La Cigarrera is a Manzanilla producing Almacenista that began aging Sherries in 1758. In 1997 La Cigarrera’s ninth-generation cellar master Ignacio Hidalgo decided to estate bottle his Sherries so that he could sell a higher quality wine directly to the market.
In 2008, during a visit to the winery, Ignacio showed André a few of barrels that contained a Manzanilla Pasada of an unknown age. When André asked if we could purchase some he reluctantly agreed. The wine maybe twenty years old on average but that assessment ss vague at best. The four barrels of this solera were reworked 12 years ago and they are over 150 years old.
